Tired of Pit Stains? Men’s Speed Stick with Stainguard Keep Your Undershirt White!!

April 26, 2010 | By | 16 Replies More

I don’t know about you, but I think getting yellow pit stains on my nice clean white undershirts really sucks. I’ve gone to great lengths over the years to change my routine so that my antiperspirant would completely dry before I put on my undershirts, so as to minimize the chance of them getting stained. It’s a total pain, but I’ve had to live with it — that is — until today!

The innovative folks over at Speedstick (Colgate) have just released SpeedStick Stainguard, the first men’s antiperspirant that fights the appearance of yellow stains on your undershirts! And the even better news, is that they have also created a similar product for women too! (Lady Speed Stick with Stainguard)

Back in July of last year, there was a research company who put together an amazing deodorant innovation study and my favorite idea was an antiperspirant that didn’t cause those nasty yellow stains. Well, I’m not sure if Colgate was behind that study, but if they were – kudos to them for listening!

Here’s the email:

Tug, Given some of your posts in the past thought you would love this.

Guys own things that women find offensive. It could be that sports poster you have had for years, or that couch from your college dorm room days or DVD’s of movies that you and your friends quote. However, you may also own more unpleasant things like those ugly yellow sweat stains that never fail to appear on your most loved summer clothes, gym gear or lounging shirts. These unsightly underarm stains can be caused by a range of factors, including sweat, soils, stress, diet, laundering and antiperspirant ingredients. When these different factors combine, yellow stains can begin to form on clothes even after machine washing.  Why not upgrade to a line of deodorant smarter than the sweat?

The new Men’s Speed Stick with Stainguard features patent-pending Stain Defense™ technology that keeps more antiperspirant on your skin, helping to fight the appearance of yellow stains on your favorite white T.

They’ve also partnered with Hanes and will be offering a free trial of Men’s Speedstick with Stainguard in special packs of Hanes Undershirts at select retailers (I’ll try to find out more details about this so I can let you all know where to get them.)

Wanna know something even cooler? You might be able to get some for free!  The nice folks over at Speedstick have graciously offered to send me some samples as well as a bunch to giveaway! So, as soon as my package arrives, I’ll put up a contest, and we’ll give some free (and very useful) swag away to some very lucky people!

Man, I can’t wait to find out how well this stuff works!

I’ve tried the speedstick with stain guard and I have to admit I see no difference. Its not yellow but rather just a different color.

So I am not really happy with the product.

    • thanks brian — yeah, you know i’m not feeling the buzz for these stainguard products, so i’m thinking that they might not be offered long-term if the sales cannot justify the production.

for me, there would have to be something considerably different about those antiperspirants for me to change from what i normally use. as far as underarm stains, i’ve never had a big problem with them, but the fact that there are now ways to successfully remove deodorant stains from shirts (or even prevent them), i’m not too worried about.

thanks for stopping by and sharing!

  2. Mark says:

Until fairly recently, I NEVER had yellow stains in the underarms of my undershirts. What is the best way to remove such stains?

    • hey mark, there are two products on the market designed to remove yellow underarm stains: deo-go and pit stop. i’ve personally tried deo-go and it worked as advertised (see the prior link for my review). i have not tried pit stop yet.

good luck and let me know if you decide to try either and keep me posted on how it worked!

  3. Tshirtguy says:

Horrible. Tried using this for 4 months and my cotton/poly blend t-shirts were horribly stained in the armpit area. It’s the aluminum that stains the t-shirt. Trying Tom’s of Maine deodorant and no stains. You may sweat a little more using just regular deodorant but it’s worth keeping your favorite tshirts.

    • thanks for sharing tshirtguy! although i applaud colgate for coming out with the product, i have a hard time rationalizing an antiperspirant switch – that is something people just stick with for a long time. i’ve been using ban wide roll-on (scented) forever and i can’t see myself switching.

i’d rather see an undershirt that wouldn’t stain in the underarm area, or stick with your favorite antiperspirant and undershirt and just use a product like deo-go to remove the pit stains.

  4. I posted my youtube video. I have a couple of pictures I’ve taken. I intended to only take two months, but honestly didn’t think I wore my new shirts as much as normal (due to traveling and not have the Stainguard with me out of town), so I extended the test for another month.

To my naked eye, I had to look really hard, up against light, in order to notice some slight discoloration. It seemed that the camera picked up a little more. Regardless, it is MUCH better than anything in the past in which there was serious yellowing going on after just a month.

I would expect to see more discoloration in the next six-to-nine months, but I feel very confident in saying that Speed Stick Stainguard passed my test.

The first two weeks of wearing it, my armpits felt a little “raw”, as if they were irritated a bit by the deodorant. After three weeks, it didn’t seem to bother them anymore.

  5. Curtis_in_Colorado says:

I have started a 2-month test. I went out today and bought three new t-shirts and the Speed Stick Stainguard Clean. I made a little video explaining what I am doing and will record and post my results video at the end of September.

It states on the container that the deodorant lasts for 24-hours, so I will make sure I do not wear any of my new t-shirts for more than 24-hours after applying the deodorant and will only wear the t-shirts when I wear the deodorant. I will wash the t-shirts between wearing them again. I think this will allow for a reasonable test with the expectation that the t-shirts should not have armpit stains.

    • hey curtis! look forward to hearing more about your results. when you’re done with your test, either post your results here, or email me directly and i’ll post them for you!

  6. Gil says:

I just finished trying out the new Speed Stick w/ Stain Guard that I purchased last month. Positive + I haven’t observed any pit stains. Negative – The deodorant cakes up throughout the day. And is even difficult to wash-out when taking a shower at the end of the day unless I happen to sweat heavily that day. Also the price is not inexpensive.

    • gil, thanks for the intel about the new speed stick with stain guard. i’m sure other folks will appreciate knowing how it performs. sounds like you’ll need to do a little more scrubbing in the shower though :)
