RibbedTee Launches “Trade In Your Hanes” Promotion. Gives Back To PlanetAid Charity.
Here’s news (via email) from RibbedTee covering recent updates, along with information about the company’s new “Trade In Your Hanes” promotion.
Earlier this year, we launched our Retro Fit undershirt line – a throw back vintage-like undershirt, and it’s been a big success for us. We got some great coverage on ValetMag.com, Manpacks.com started offering it, and even P90X inventor Tony Horton got in on the action over at OpenSky.com.
Most recently, we added Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to the list of our celebrity clients (he’s got our MicroModal tank tops), joining Will Smith from earlier this year who now wears our Classic Fit undershirts daily and he also wore our MicroModal tanks on the set of Men in Black 3.
Lastly, we’re just about to launch our new “Genesis” tank top line, a 100% cotton, made in America, boldly designed ribbed tank.
Today we’re launching our “Trade in Your Hanes” offer (see link for details), that benefits PlanetAid.org. I was hoping you could take a quick look at the offer/promotion details, and if you feel it appropriate, I’d love your help in spreading the word about it. You can also share it via the “Trade In Your Hanes” press release too.

Welcome & Thanks for Visiting UndershirtGuy.com!

I received my RibbedTee order today and it was met with mixed emotions. First let me reiterate that I really like the idea of trading in Hanes (the crappiest of all shirts) for a 50% discount. So regardless of how this review goes, I’m a big fan of the program.
Value: These shirts are very expensive. There’s no doubt about it. The MicroModal crew neck shirt is butter soft and fits like a glove, but costs $29. With the discount, that comes out to $14.50ea but the discount is limited to a $50.00 order. So I was only able to order one MicroModal tee. There goes my plan of replacing all 10 of my undershirts
The classic fit ribbed crew neck shirts are more affordable at $18.50 for a 2-pack. Discounted price is $9.25 for the pack, or $4.62 per shirt. I like that price point and really felt like I was getting a deal, but the shirts don’t feel as luxurious as the MicroModal tees. Even with the difference in feel, I don’t see how the MicroModal tee is 3x more expensive than the classic ribbed.
Shipping: RibbedTee charged $11 for shipping and my order was shipped out very quickly *USPS Priority Mail. Metered postage came out $9.37 which means I have $1.63 floating out there in cyberspace somewhere. I would like to see an economy shipping option because my shipping cost was 46% of the order subtotal.
Fitment: RibbedTee has a solid product and I haven’t seen anything on the shelves that can come close. The added length means they’ll stay tucked in. The super slim waist means that my dress shirts won’t get bunched up. The stretch means they won’t break down throughout the day. I haven’t washed them yet, but I have high expectations that I’ll get at least 1 year of use by wearing them under dress shirts.
Conclusion: I’m glad that I replaced 3 of my Hanes with 3 new tees from RibbedTee but the product and shipping prices would likely prevent me from ordering again. At a more reasonable price point, and with the option of economy shipping, RibbedTee would likely see more orders from my buddies and I.
I think this is a great idea. Currently I’m going through an undershirt crisis and I was prepared to throw away all of my Hanes. Trading them in for new shirts makes me feel better about the waste.
Purchasing clothing online can be risky. If it doesn’t fit perfectly, often I’m stuck with the item because it’s easier than returning it. This program helps ease that pain by offering a discount. I remember when AG Jeans had the same program (they may still do). Their denim is very expensive. Trade-ins are a great way to get some new threads and give back at the same time!
