Hanes Introduces V-Neck Underwear T-Shirts in Dyed Colors
Well, I guess better late than never wrt me sharing this press release from Hanes. Man, for the life of me, I can’t figure out how I missed this announcement last month around Thanksgiving time where Hanes introduced their new v-neck undershirt in dyed colors! For those of you who haven’t been keeping notes, up until last month, you couldn’t find a Hanes v-neck undershirt in colors (unless you dyed it yourself). Of course, they’ve offered their crew neck and tank top undershirts in colors like black, grey, and the occasional blue for some time, but for some reason their v-neck undershirt counterpart has not been privileged enough to be graced with color, that is, until late last month.
I’m guessing that Hanes never offered colored v-necks before because they didn’t sell as much as crew necks had in the past. Up until last year, the crew neck undershirt reigned king. But more recently, v-neck undershirts have become wildly more popular with the guys, I assume due in some part to the continued transition into a more business casual attire in the work place. Guys are losing the ties more than ever, and wearing their shirts with the top one to two buttons unbuttoned and instead of showing the world the traditional “white wedge”, we’re opting for a more streamlined look (while at the same time covering our unsightly chest hair). Another reason v-necks might becoming more popular is that undershirt manufacturers are giving us guys more choices than ever before. They’re offering us v-necks in different colors, fabric blends, and with different v-cut depths (deep v, shallow v, etc.) so we choose one that best fits our needs. Thank goodness for that!
I know personally, I now find myself wearing v-neck undershirts over crew neck undershirts probably five or six times to one where this time last year it was just the opposite. I’m not sure if that’s due in part to us living in LA where the v-neck undershirt/t-shirt is worn as a men’s clothing staple, if it’s because I’m dressing more casual and wearing more button up shirts, or if it’s my new found confidence after recently manscaping my not-so-hairy chest hair with my beard/gotee trimmer to take off the extra and unnecessary length! Of course, if you’re wearing a button up shirt buttoned all the way up, with a tie, or wearing a crew neck t-shirt and want to wear an undershirt underneath, a crew neck is most always the appropriate choice. That said, I think that 2010 is going to be the year of the v-neck undershirt!
Whatever the reason, Hanes is on board and now offering their v-neck undershirts/t-shirts in dyed colors. Here’s the press release. Comments welcome & encouraged!
