I have some vintage cut tshirts and I usually just wear no undershirt with them. Is there an undershirt that has shorter sleeves that I can wear with a vintage cut tshirt. All of my undershirt sleeves are longer than the vintage tshirt. I’ve tried buying smaller undershirts, but they are too uncomfortable. Any suggestions? Thank you. P

Yes, there are undershirts that have shorter sleeves, however, most of them are “body-conscious” (form fit) undershirts that have fitted sleeves. The nice thing about form fit undershirts is that they stretch and conform to your body, so many times you can go one size smaller and the undershirt will still be comfortable. Another nice thing about undershirts with fitted sleeves is that they [the sleeves] stay in place throughout the day and won’t peak out of your regular short sleeve over-shirts (like your vintage t-shirt). There’s a bunch of those types of undershirts available for purchase online. I’d recommend checking out my blog, freshpair.com, or barenecessities.com and search for “body conscious”, “form fit”, “fitted”, or “stretch” undershirts. Those key words should leave you with a large selection of undershirts to choose from.

Off-hand, I don’t know of any regular box cut undershirts that have shorter sleeves, but here’s a piece of helpful advice. Many undershirts have roughly the same sleeve lengths, but the reason they may appear to be longer or shorter actually has to do with the shoulder strap length and not the actual length of the sleeve!

You can have two different undershirts with the exact same sleeve length, but if one has a longer shoulder strap length, the edge of the shoulders will fall further down on your arm and it will appear that the sleeve length is longer, when in fact, it isn’t.

So, the one of the keys to finding a good fitting undershirt is to find an undershirt that fits you in the shoulders properly. Because there is such a wide variety of undershirts out there, the best way for you to find that perfect fitting undershirt is to try a variety of them. Thankfully, there’s plenty to choose from
