Ask Tug Update: What do you think? Deep V-Neck Undershirt for Tall Men

2/10/09 Update: Ask Tug Update: Deep V-Neck Undershirt for Tall Men

Hey folks,

Here’s an update from a reader who sent in a question about deep V-Necks back at the beginning of July.

Tug, tks again for the reply… after a few weeks for waiting on deliveries .. here is my update:

1. large tall jockey v-neck undershirt. the regular size (not tall) is actually the undershirt i was using prior to writing to you. i was worried with the problems i had previously would continue to the new pair, namely: loose fit (baggy as an undershirt – guess its for chubbier fellas), and low quality. Give me something nice that feels good… it is afterall an undershirt.

2. tommyjohn v-neck. i actually wrote to them to see how deep their v-neck was, and they told me it was ’standard’ so with a little bit of hesitation i decided to try them out and order two. unfortunately, about a week later (shocking in itself), they emailed me to say they hadn’t sorted out their shipping policy and were going to charge me 5x as much for shipping it to hong kong! very disappointing indeed. decided to cancel my order, their loss i suppose b/c had it worked out, would have ordered quite a few more.

3. c-in2. stayed away from them as you suggested the length would be too short.

4. american apparel deep v-neck shirts.. finally, something hits the sweet spot. i remember viewing their website online and deciding to give it a shot b/c information was very thorough (including many reviews). was pleasantly surprised to find that the length is actually pretty good.. it fits about 2inches inside my trousers (i’m 6′4”), which is perfect. and equally important is the feel. very nice high quality cotton, and because it was built as an outer-wear shirt (?), the fit is ‘fashionable’ and snug .. so no loose fitting problems like with jockey. quite pleased overall and as their description said, its got a very deep v-neck so don’t need to keep absolutely every button on my shirt done up!. I ordered a dozen pairs this morning and am quite happy that it satisfies all my needs.

thanks vm again for all the help tug.

I just sent him an email to find out exactly which deep v-necks he wound up purchasing from American Apparel so I can provide a link for everyone!

Here’s the link to the shirts he bought.

  1. I wanted to reply to the recent post on this website about a visitors purchasing experience here at Tommy John. Unfortunately, at the time of his purchase, we were not set up for international shipping. We only had US shipping capability> He was correct in that the cost was 5x more to ship a package to Hong Kong. I want to clarify that their were no additional fees added to the shipping quote I responded to him with, it was the actual USPS price.

Please contact us before your order, if you don’t see your country on our shipping tool and we will make it accessible for your order to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

On a more positive note, our international demand is increasing and we are adding new countries every week. Tommy John recently released 2 new Vnecks with a deeper V and a new line of underwear at http://www.tommyjohnonline.com
