Undershirt Review – Tommy John – Tailored Stretch™ technology

As the title implies, today’s updated review is on Tommy John undershirts with Tailored Stretch™ technology.

If you recall, I provided an initial review on Tommy John undershirts about a week ago and listed a handful of pros and cons. As I sit here writing this post, I am wearing the medium replacement undershirt the kind folks at Tommy John sent me in exchange for the original large that I had ordered. The exchange process went about a smoothly as one could expect. They sent me out the medium “no questions asked” and only asked that I return the large to them (which I did) and provided the facility for me to do so easily enough.

Overall, the medium fits me much better than the large. To put things in perspective, I’m an average built man weighing around 175lbs, 5′9″ tall, shoulder width roughly 18″, and having a 34″ waist.

Tommy John’s medium fits me surprisingly well throughout my torso, mid section, waist, hips, etc. The best way for me to describe the fit is that it’s stretchy fabric “hugs” my body. It does not fit too closely, nor too loosely. The shirt sleeves fit slightly loose, but comfortable around my modestly sized 13.25″ biceps (maybe I need to work out a little more to fill them out). To be honest, I may even be able to fit into a small, since they seem to cut their shirts a little more generously. The stretchy, silky soft fabric feels really nice and allows me to move freely without feeling confined. The material seems breathe fairly well, but I’ll have to put this one to the test and wear it all day long to see how it holds up (and how I do too).

The Tailored Stretch™ technology and tailored cut does exactly what they say it will do. Once pulled down over your hips and butt, this undershirt will stay in place. It will not ride up, bunch up or come untucked. Very well executed Tommy John.

While I would not consider this an issue, the shoulders on the medium still seem to be designed for those with a broader build. The “strap” length is still around 7″ (from collar, across the top of your shoulder, to where it joins the sleeve). My shoulders measure around 5.5″ so the shirt hangs over my shoulders a bit more than I’m used to.

The only minor nit I can report, is that there is still a slight “gathering” on my left sleeve (where it attaches to the body of the undershirt). I reported this in my initial review, and while the gathering is less prominent than it was on the large I had, it’s still there. Thankfully, it doesn’t affect the functionality of the shirt at all.

Overall, a very nice undershirt.
The best feature: Tailored Stretch technology.

Hmmm, I think I’ll buy a couple more and see how the small fits me.
